Royal British Legion

Delivering reliable and cost-effective database infrastructure solutions through a strong partner network

The military charity, Royal British Legion provides lifelong support to the British Armed Forces community through guidance, recovery, and rehabilitation for serving and ex-serving personnel and their families.

As a key pillar in the rehabilitation and recovery of British service personnel, Royal British Legion needed a more sustainable long-term solution to its IT delivery to ensure that its services can always be accessed and are dependable to those that rely on them.

The charity’s legacy Structured Query Language (SQL) infrastructure was complex, outdated, and relied on a single point of failure. In response, Phoenix suggested a managed service that would strengthen and improve the charity’s infrastructure with a modern SQL server database.

SQL server databases are crucial for charity and non-profit organisations like Royal British Legion as they house all the data and settings for the organisation’s line of business applications and manage the services that look after donors and volunteers. Without them, Royal British Legion wouldn’t be able to provide the vital support it offers to the military community.

We introduced Royal British Legion to our long-standing data analytics partner, Simpson Associates who provided the niche skills required to manage the charity’s SQL server databases. On this partnership, Ben Gannon, Data and AI Specialist at Phoenix, commented, “Phoenix has incredibly strong capabilities, but we also recognise that there are certain specialist areas where we don’t have the skills in-house, and therefore, we use trusted third parties such as Simpson Associates to deliver those services.”

“For me, it was the ideal situation because the reality was actually more cost-effective for us. Plus, I was no longer reliant on one person. I had the whole Simpsons’ team.”

Through our strong partner relationships and connections, Royal British Legion has increased the reliability of its services, ensured the safety of its users’ data, and now provides a better experience to its end-users, employees, and volunteers.

Giles Horwood, Managing Director at Simpson Associates, concluded, “Technology is not staying still, and I think that’s one of the things that we have worked very closely with Royal British Legion on is really moving them forward from a technology perspective. Ensuring that everything is supported, up-to-date and puts them in a position now to look at what they can do going forward.”
