Fostering a strong relationship with The Beam, we’re continuing our mission to drive skills and social value in the north-east. TechHub is a new addition to Sunderland smart city, poised to revolutionise digital accessibility.

As we continue to dedicate efforts on increasing diversity in the north and supporting the voluntary sector and local schools, we would like to introduce TechHub, a new digital innovation space. In the heart of Sunderland, The Beam is a dynamic and growing business space that will enable us to more effectively serve our growing customer base and nurture the next generation into technology roles.

Clare Metcalfe, Interim Managing Director at Phoenix, comments on the partnership, “We’re delighted to share our growing reach in the north-east, highlighted by our new space in The Beam

As a quickly expanding business, we’re dedicated to working closely with customers, not-for-profits, and schools to create an innovation hub for all things tech and development. From increasing the technology talent pool for the next generation to providing sessions catered to businesses, the voluntary sector, and local schools, we have strong aspirations to drive innovation in the area.

By connecting with the business industry in Sunderland, we will offer support, guidance, and opportunities for businesses, graduates, and young people with tech career aspirations.

This technology centre serves as a hub of activity, innovation, and modernisation in the heart of Sunderland, with people at the forefront of what we do.”

TechHub is the result of a collaboration between Sunderland City Council, Microsoft, and Phoenix. Through this partnership, we are contributing to the technology presence in the area and providing opportunities for multiple business areas.

Liz St Louis, director of smart cities and enabling services at Sunderland City Council, said: “We’re thrilled to see the launch of TechHub at The Beam, a pivotal initiative driving digital accessibility and fostering collaboration across communities and businesses alike.

“This new innovation space not only strengthens our commitment to increasing diversity and supporting local schools, but also serves as a catalyst for driving skills development, business improvement and social value in the North East.

“Through strategic partnerships with industry leaders, like Microsoft and Phoenix, the TechHub will play a vital role in nurturing the next generation of tech talent, providing invaluable resources, support, and opportunities for businesses, graduates, and young people aspiring for careers in technology.

“The ethos behind TechHub reflects a core focus of our smart city journey, which is to empower our residents and businesses through the power of technology to ensure no one and nowhere is left behind.”
