Introducing Microsoft Security Copilot

March 15th, 2024

Microsoft Security Copilot will be generally available on 1st April 2024, providing powerful new capabilities, new integrations, and industry-leading generative AI.

Microsoft Security Copilot is the industry’s first generative AI solution specifically designed to support security and IT professionals. By catching what others miss, Microsoft Security Copilot moves faster, strengthens team performance, and ensures your assets are covered around the clock. Microsoft Security Copilot is informed by large-scale data and threat intelligence, including more than 78 trillion security signals processed by Microsoft each day. This, coupled with large language models, enables Copilot to deliver tailored insights, guide your next steps, and defend at the rapid pace and expansive scale of AI.

Microsoft Security Copilot helps security and IT professionals amplify their skillsets, collaborate more effectively, see more, and respond faster.

As part of general availability, Microsoft Security Copilot includes the following new capabilities:

  • Custom promptbooks allow customers to create and save their own series of natural language prompts for common security workstreams and tasks
  • Knowledgebase integrations, in preview, empowers you to integrate Microsoft Security Copilot with your business logic and perform activities based on your own step-by-step guides
  • Multi-language support allows Copilot to process prompts and respond in 8 different languages with 25 languages supported in the interface
  • Third-party integrations gives you access to tools from global partners who are actively developing integrations and services
  • Connectivity features such as Microsoft Defender External Attack Surface Management allow you to identify and analyse the most up-to-date information on your organisation’s external attack surface risks
  • Microsoft Entra audit logs and diagnostic logs give additional insight for a security investigation or IT issue analysis of audit logs related to a specific user or event, summarised in natural language
  • Usage reporting features provide dashboard insights on how your teams use Copilot so that you can identify even more opportunities for optimisation.

Answering your questions

Microsoft Security Copilot is an AI cyber security product that enables security professionals to respond to cyber threats quickly, process signals at machine speed, and assess risk exposure in minutes.

Microsoft Security Copilot became generally available globally from the 1st April 2024. With general availability, Microsoft Security Copilot will be available as two rich user experiences: in an immersive standalone portal or embedded into existing security products.

Microsoft Security Copilot is the only security AI product that combines a specialised language model with security-specific capabilities from Microsoft. These capabilities incorporate a growing set of security-specific skills informed by Microsoft’s unique global threat intelligence and more than 65 trillion daily signals.

Microsoft Security Copilot works with other Microsoft Security products, including Microsoft Defender XDR, Microsoft Sentinel, Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Entra, Microsoft Purview, and Microsoft Defender for External Attack Surface Management. Copilot uses the data and signals from these products to generate customised guidance.

The only prerequisite for Microsoft Security Copilot is an Azure account. However, organisations get the most value from Copilot when connected to their security data.
